UK-based public/private partnership hopes to intensify use of locally sourced timber [From the web]

LONDON, Feb. 22, 2013 (Local News) - Government and business leaders have come together to create an action plan to create a viable economic future for the UK's wood industry.

The 'Grown in Britain' action plan aims to revitalise the UK timber supply chain. It has been drawn up in response to a Government-backed report, published last year, which found that 80 per cent of wood in the UK is imported despite the fact the private sector in the UK only harvests about 40 per cent of available wood. The Confederation for Forest Industries, the trade body for the forest industry in the UK, is backing the plan, which is being coordinated by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
