Welsh biomass project may be sold with shutdown of aluminum plant [From the web]
HOLYHEAD, WALES, Sept. 8, 2010 (Local News) - Smelting operations are to be decommissioned at an Anglesey metal giant - ending any hopes production would ever restart at the mothballed plant.
A year after the two potlines at Anglesey Aluminum ground to a halt, putting 400 people out of work, the company has announced the site will now be cleared.
Plans for a biomass project that could have powered a restarted plant will continue but the company revealed this might now be sold to an energy firm as a separate business opportunity.
Anglesey MP Albert Owen said the news was not a shock and that it could now clear the way for the development of other job creation schemes at the site.
